Week 3 is now on track!!!

Week 3 maybe the lecture where we discovered perhaps one of the most complicated side of the human emotions which is love and lust. How can we differentiate the two to begin with? From what I have seen through the ages, it is a factor which can either make a relationship last or cease to exist.

The two stories gave me new perspectives, in "The summer solstice", the idea of being a woman in a male society where egos reside and create discriminations among genders. From what I see, what was happening during those times are perhaps one of man's most barbaric era. The main character portrayed a dynamic character wherein she changed while the story progressed. At first, she was very passive and take things as is with no questions asked (at least from what I see it) and then she changed as soon as she sees the discrimination. The story gives out phallic symbols and to tell the truth, I don't know what phallic means honestly, and my friend gave me an example, "lightsabers are phallic symbols" and I still don't know what it means, then I searched the net and pretty much it explains everything.

The author shows a somehow a feminist approach on women empowerment because it showcases the liberation of women from social responsibilities created by the male empire.
The idea of lust as a tool to build a relationship will only lead to its demise. At least that is what I think.

On the other hand, while reading "Bread of salt" I remember the days when I was feeling the same way as the main character, always dreaming, chivalrous in some ways, and hurts very easily. I sometimes dream of myself setting up the stage when I go out and confess my feelings to someone I like, and it has to be perfect.

I felt bad for the guy because everything he did was dream and no actions came, perhaps the very bad thing that one can experience is having the very very short time of lowering one's guard and do something out of context *remember that he tried making "binalot" with the food prepared, he was caught in the act by the girl he likes* that is the only time he did something like that and the girl happen to be in their.

I also felt the same as him that it is indeed hard to talk to the person you like and it takes guts just to say hi and requires a lot of planning when one wants to have a conversation with the person. But when that person, shrouded with mystery opens up and reveals their true nature, our eyes open up and the sense of mysteriousness around her/him subsides, so does one's attraction. I like the way the author plot out the story and how it explains the character's nature and personality. Love really makes wonders..

Perhaps in realizing ones true feelings, we begin to open up to ourselves and admit that it is hard to ignore and let it subside because it would only lead to more problems in the future.
